Hello, I am Marta Szulc, a Nottingham family photographer, and I’m excited to share my experience in capturing precious family moments with you. As a family photographer, I have seen how ordinary photo sessions can turn into extraordinary moments. In this blog, I will take you on a journey of how a family photoshoot session can capture your true essence and become a perfect gift for family members and friends.
Family photo sessions are not just about taking pictures, it’s about capturing memories that will last a lifetime. These memories will bring you back to those moments and remind you of the love and connection you share with your family. That’s why family photoshoots are so important, they capture the true essence of your family and create precious moments that you will cherish forever.
Before your family photo session, it’s important to prepare to make the most out of your time with your photographer. One of the first things you should do is find the right location and backdrops. As a professional photographer, I have several different backdrops to choose from in the studio or I can suggest an outdoor location that will work the most for your family. I always check all my favourite locations to make sure that I will suggest the best one for your photoshoot.
The first thing to remember when it comes to picking a location for your family photography session is figuring out the vibe you want. Do you want to go on an adventure or have a quiet snuggle family photography session at home, or posed studio session in painterly style? When you know the vibe and the style you want, that makes it easier to narrow down choices.
My advice to you is pick something yourkids will enjoy. The more excited they are by their surroundings, the happier they will be. If they love throwing rocks into water (what kid doesn’t?) then we can find cute creek! the key is finding somewhere that is interesting enough to keep them happy!
As a family photographer, one question that I often get asked is, “When is the best time for family photo sessions?” The answer to this question depends on what kind of look and feel you want to achieve in your family photos. For outdoor sessions, the best time is usually either early morning or late afternoon, when the light is soft and golden. If you prefer indoor sessions, mid-morning or early afternoon may be better as there is usually plenty of natural light.
The timing of your session can also depend on the age of your children and their schedules. For example, if you have young children, a morning session may be better as they tend to be more rested and in better moods. Ultimately, the best time for your family photo session is the time that works best for you and your family.
As a family photographer, I have a passion for getting to know and photographing people. My ultimate goal is to transfer that same enthusiasm to my clients so that you and your kids will walk away loving your experience.
Typically, families book a family photographer once a year at certain times, such as during spring, holidays, or to celebrate a new addition to the family. However, some families prefer booking sessions throughout the year.
Before our session, I always want to connect with the family on the phone or through messages, learn more about your family, and discover what the children like to do. It’s also essential to know how their children typically behave in front of the camera.
During the family photography session, some small children may love the camera, while others may not want anything to do with me. This information is crucial to ensure a successful session.
First and foremost, getting your photos should be fun! I know it can be stressful to figure out what to wear or figure out the best location for your family photography, but hopefully, I can take the stress out of that for you and share ideas for “What to wear” Aside from that clothing doesn’t matter. What matters is that your family has fun. Have fun!
This family has children who, at the time were interested in the camera and the other times didn’t really care that much. It’s important that I keep your family close together while you keep your children engaged in fun! This can mean tickling your little guy, or seeing how he can pile up and hug on Mommy. It can also mean allowing your little guy to play with leaves and talk about the colour or shape. Or maybe your little girl just wants to be held. I’m there to document that fun for you!
Once we get the important shots out of the way, you know, the one for the grandparents with everyone looking at the camera we can relax a bit. My favourite images are always the ones where we allow the child to naturally explore and get into something he or she went to do. When we let the child lead the way, they will be naturally motivated to interact and play, and this helps to bring out natural expressions from the child as well.
Finding the perfect outfit for your family session may take a little bit of work, but you probably have great pieces already in your closet that could work together! Use the tips below to help formulate a plan. If you need help deciding what to wear, I’d love to help with that!
2. Layer and add accessories with a hat, headband, necklace, jacket or scarf.
3. Wear clothes that are fashionable, yet still functional for the location. Keep in mind we will be moving around!
4. When it comes to patterns, a good rule of thumb is to have one or two pattered outfits for every three people included in the session. Floral prints, polka dots, and plaids work great! Also, avoid large logos or licensed clothing.
5. Shoes! Remember that you’ll want them to be comfortable as we move around, but please stay away from character-themed shoes, athletic shoes and bulky soles.
Once I have all the details about your family, I can capture your connection and tell your unique story through my images.
