How to prepare for a photo session?

Why is it so important to prepare well for a studio session?

From my photographer’s experience.

Most people are unaware that the light emitted by lamps in a photo studio can reveal our human imperfections.

Light scratches, skin discolouration, spots, too much tan, hair roots.

Dirty clothes, nails, smudged makeup.

There are many things that we don’t want to show.

Good preparation is always appreciated.

Nobody is perfect and even if you do not mind a light stain on your T-shirt or an unevenly painted nail on a daily basis, remember that the camera does not forgive …

It is important for you as a model to appreciate their importance so that your photos really enjoy the eye.

What are you wearing?

What to pay attention to before the photo session?

Make sure that your clothes are clean, ironed and matched to the session. It is important to determine the nature of the session. If it is not a thematic session, it is worth having three sets of clothes with you. The first –  elegant. The second – casual, casual but classy. Third – evening.

But remember that the creation should always be matched to the session and its subject. You can change clothes a few times during the session, but well-prepared, neat clothes are the first step to enjoying good photos.

How to prepare for a photo studio session? - Tips

When planning to iron clothes, do this the day before the session. If your wardrobe wrinkles easily, come to the session in a loose outfit, and take your outfits for photos in a cover and put them on before the session.

What's on your head?

You definitely wash your hair regularly, so remember that greasy tangles immediately doom the scheduled session to failure.

Dear ladies, please remember not to change the entire styling on your own.

Gentlemen, if your session doesn’t involve long hair, just drop by your hairdresser a few days before the session.

Add something from yourself.

Bring what you like. Cufflinks, hat, cap, headband. As a model, you need to feel at ease.

Tired eyes are enemies of good photos in photo studio

Don’t party before the session. Get a good night’s sleep. If you tend to get red eyes, take some drops to minimise congestion.

Your smile is important.

Be sure to stock up on a moisturiser, and if your lips become dry regularly, exfoliate a few days before the session. Photos in a photo studio, and in particular portrait photos, are to show a whole lot of details that make up your beauty. It would be a pity to miss it.

If you want a whiter smile, start using whitening toothpaste a few weeks before the session.

Nobody is perfect

Surprises on the face.

Nobody is perfect and it may happen that some imperfection appears on your face just before the photo session. It could be a discolouration, a pimple, a blackhead, or a small wound from shaving. You can’t help it and don’t be nervous. Every problem can be solved.

Fortunately, photo manipulation programs are the perfect tool to fight human imperfections. In addition, if you decide to help a make-up artist on the day of the session, her trained eye will pick up unwanted skin changes.

Strong makeup is essential

Why does the bride usually have strong or even very strong makeup? The white colour of the wedding dress, the bright creations and the light used in the photo studio absorb other colours. White colour makes other colours pale. Your face is very important, therefore stronger than usual makeup will definitely help pastel shades break through the predominant light colour of clothes or lamps.

Professional makeup artist

When planning a photo session in the studio and outdoors, it is worth considering using the services of a professional make-up artist. A specialist in this field, she will take care of every detail of your make-up and may surprise you with the final effect.

Facial hair and epilation

This is what your face should be – especially gentlemen. Of course, if the session requires a certain type of facial hair, we should have it. For all other cases, however, you should remember the rules of a good, smooth shave. Make sure the razor is new. Use shaving cream and aftershave when shaving. Increasingly, special shaving oils are available to help the blade remove facial hair even more gently.

Before shaving, it is worth taking a shower or warming your face with a warm towel. Thanks to this, your stubble will be soft and you will avoid irritations and small wounds.

Dear ladies. Take care of the smooth skin of the armpits, legs and bikini – if you are planning a session in underwear. In addition, make sure your facial skin is well-hydrated to avoid flaking skin during photos.

How to prepare for a photo session - Nails

It is worth visiting your beauty salon a few days before the session. You can prepare your hands, especially nails, for a photo session. What will be good? Everything. Simple french, red polish, your favourite hybrids or just a gloss – you can apply it at home. Importantly, the nails must be clean and evenly trimmed. I address this advice to both men and women.

Underwear.

Dress up something you like. I recommend preparing a nude set that is well-suited to the colour of the skin. When choosing a bra, pay attention to whether the straps can be removed.

Tan

The tan adds shine. The skin looks younger and radiant. However, remember to leave a strong sunbathing for a maximum of a week before the session. Avoid glasses and clothing while sunbathing. Why? The clothing can leave light marks on the skin that are difficult to retouch afterwards.

Shoes are your hallmark

Apparently, shoes for people are a showcase. You know. They say a lot about us. It is them that we often involuntarily pay attention to at the first contact.

Dear ladies – I recommend high heels. Your legs look amazing in them and your body posture feels sexier.

Gentlemen – shoes clean and tidy. Such as you like and which you would not be ashamed to go to a business interview.

I hope that the above tips will help you prepare well for your photo studio session. I collected them after years of experience and I know that using them will make working with a photographer a pure pleasure for you. Because that's what it's all about; to enjoy your session.
